Humans of BGM: Melisa Ruznic

Melisa Ruznic

Melisa Ruznic is a traveler who recently passed through our airport. She was on her way to Dallas, Texas to visit her father. When asked about her life experiences, this is what she had to say:

“I’ve always wanted to travel home to Bosnia, that’s where my mom is from. I’m planning on going there next summer, it’s really the only place I want to go.”

“I admire my mom the most, She’s been through a lot in her life, like struggled a lot when she was in Bosnia. She came here with only $70 in her pocket, and now she has a house and two cars. She’s been through a lot and she’s really, really strong.  I want to be like that someday.”

“My favorite memory was when my little sister was born. My mom kept the pregnancy a mystery, like whether it was gonna be a boy or girl. I have two brothers and we would argue over what it was going to be. I would cry because I wanted a sister so bad. As soon as I walked into the delivery room, they told me I had a little sister. Now I help take care of her, we do everything together.”

“I travel a lot. I have a house here in Binghamton and one in Los Angeles. I’ve lived in LA since the 70’s for my business, but now I have a lady friend who lives here so I go back and forth often. I usually fly out of the Binghamton Airport. I prefer the weather in LA over Binghamton, but I like it here, I have kids and grandkids who live in Syracuse.”

“We go on vacation a lot, I’ve traveled a lot of Europe. We did a river cruise up the Rhine which was really cool. We sailed from Rome to Athens and ended in Turkey. I’ve also gone on a Cruise in Alaska, which was amazing. The only travel tip I have, is to try to make your arrangements as early as you can for a good price.”

“The first thing on my bucket list is to sky dive, I definitely want to do that. I’ve done zip lining, scuba diving, all that stuff. I’ve even been on a hot air balloon, and that was amazing!”

Michael Paikin is a business owner originally from Syracuse, NY. He owns the Yerba Buena Ice Skating and Bowling Center in San Francisco, CA. The website for his business is Skatebowl.com.
